Celebrating the new terminal in Almaty!

TAV Airports has reached a significant milestone with the opening of the new international terminal at Almaty Airport in Kazakhstan. Built with a USD 200M investment, the new facility welcomed first passengers on June 1st. Let’s explore together!

Opening event

Prior to the inaugural flight, President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev visited the new terminal and shared his gratitude. TAV Airports Executive Board Member and Chair of ExCom Franck Mereyde, and CEO Serkan Kaptan welcomed the president, Minister of Transport Marat Karabayev and Mayor of Almaty Yerbolat Dosaev.

Air Astana’s KC664 flight from London was greeted with a water salute upon arrival at the new terminal. A small welcoming ceremony was held for the first flight and its passengers, featuring an orchestra and gifts for the first passengers.

Room for growth

Almaty Airport welcomed 9.5 million passengers in 2023, marking a 32% increase year over year. The airport serves as a base for flag carrier Air Astana and Scat Airlines. The annual capacity increases to more than 14 million passengers.

Financial backing of the project

TAV Airports secured a total of USD 450M to finance the acquisition and the new terminal investment. This financing package was spearheaded by the IFC and EBRD, with parallel loans mobilized by DEG and EDB.

Service companies transforming passenger experience

At Almaty Airport, passengers will be able to enjoy two exceptional BTA brands: Cakes & Bakes and Flavor Market -plus international brands such as Costa Coffee.

ATÜ Duty-Free has also launched its flagship stores. ATÜ established its multi-brand concept store, Luxury Square as well. The duty-free shops are distinguished by architectural elements reflecting Kazakhstan's heritage.

TAV Technologies implemented its Total Airport Management Suite (TAMS), which uses smart algorithmsand AI-based "what-if" scenarios for proactive management. Key modules include the Resource Management System for optimizing resources, the Commercial Management System for financial operations, and the Flight Management System for flight operations. The airport also uses the Common Use Passenger Processing System (CUPPS) to reduce wait times and the Baggage Reconciliation System (BRS) to enhance baggage tracking.

TAV OS is planning to operate Primeclass and VIP lounges at the airport terminal. Stay tuned for more achievements from Almaty Airport!

Serkan Kaptan speaks at WAGA

TAV Airports CEO Serkan Kaptan spoke at the "Economic Impacts of Air Transport Liberalization: Reform and Aeropolitics in Focus" panel during the ACI World Annual General Assembly in Riyadh. Moderated by PwC partners Edward Clayton and Simon Booker, the panel discussed industry changes and economic impacts of liberalization policies. Kaptan shared insights from the Madinah Airport project, Saudi Arabia's first airport privatization by TAV Airports. Other panelists included Saudi Air Connectivity Program CEO Majid Khan, IATA Middle East & Africa Regional Director Kashif Khalif, and Australia Pacific Airports Corporation CEO Lorie Argus.

Franck Mereyde opens the “Sustainable Cities” event

TAV Airports Executive Board Member and Chair of ExCom Franck Mereyde, opened the event in İzmir: "Building Tomorrow Together: The Franco-Turkish Dialogue on Sustainable Cities," hosted by the French Chamber of Commerce in Türkiye. This gathering brought together industry leaders and experts for an insightful discussion on the future of sustainable urban development and smart cities. The event aimed to forge collaborative partnerships for sustainability solutions while providing a rich panel to engage in fruitful deliberations on building a green future for our cities.

Gatherings on innovation and CSR

TAV Airports Executive Board Member and Chair of ExCom Franck Mereyde and colleagues attended the French Tech networking event in Izmir. BTA and TAV OS presented their collaboration with Wastespresso to upcycle coffee grounds and reduce plastic usage and discussed the NTAV intrapreneurship and innovation programs.

In Jordan, TAV Airports, Groupe ADP, and affiliates participated in the fifth International Internal Audit, Internal Control/Risk, and Ethics/Compliance Seminar, as well as the third CSR seminar. These seminars served as platforms to showcase the group’s achievements, share best practices, and discuss related topics.

The CSR seminar provided an invaluable opportunity to discuss CSR initiatives and internal governance strategies across the platform. The workshops conducted during this event focused on social, societal, and environmental sustainability, aiming to make significant strides toward a more sustainable future at the group level.

Ceyda Öztarhan on Powerlist by The Legal 500

TAV Airports Legal Director Ceyda Akbal Öztarhan has been featured in the 2024 GC Powerlist by The Legal 500 for the eighth time, recognizing outstanding legal departments globally.

A celebration of Turkish cuisine by BTA

"Adana Lezzet Günleri" a week-long celebration of Adana’s cuisine at Tadında Anadolu branches. Events held in Istanbul, Ankara Esenboğa, and İzmir Adnan Menderes airports featured regional dishes from Adana, prepared with local ingredients and traditional techniques. Renowned chef Şevket Usta from Adana Onur Kebap and consultant chef Şefika Günyel showcased a variety of dishes. BTA promotes Turkish tourism and Anatolian culinary culture by using geographically indicated products across its operations under the Tadında Anadolu brand.

Havaş expands portfolio with award winning performance

Havaş is expanding its customer portfolio by adding Air Serbia and Bulgaria Air. The first flights of Air Serbia to Istanbul, Izmir, Antalya, Bodrum, and Ankara, and Bulgaria Air to Izmir, Antalya, Bodrum, and Dalaman were welcomed with flowers.

In addition to expanding its portfolio, Havaş continues to receive accolades. Havaş Konya station received double recognition in Turkish Airlines' “Excellence Ground to Sky” awards for its outstanding performance and customer satisfaction, winning 'First Prize' for Q4 2023 and 'Winner of the Year' for its exceptional performance.

TAV Academy trains RAC teams

In collaboration with Groupe ADP, TAV Academy conducted an A-CDM training for the employees of Riyadh International Airport. The training was carried out by instructor Ian Barrie.

The training aims to create a more complete operational picture for each organization involved, enabling effective and timely resolution of issues, which ultimately leads to improvements in flow control and optimization of the capacity of runways, terminals, gates, and airspace. The ACDM training will continue to be provided to four more groups consisting of RAC employees and Riyadh Airport stakeholders in July and October.

Impeccable results on the pitch

TAV Airports corporate football team advanced to the next round in Türkiye's renowned corporate sports league, the “Şirketler Ligi.” After a challenging 5-week competition, our football team successfully moved forward from their group.

TAV Macedonia's futsal team is, on the other celebrating another victory. Ended up being in the final four in the Business League – the most elite amateur futsal competition in N. Macedonia In a competition of 24 teams from different companies, TAV Macedonia’s team, with team spirit and united forces, successfully reached the semi-finals. Wish them all success in the upcoming rounds!

Gazipaşa-Alanya Airport celebrates the inaugural base flight from Brussels by Corendon with a water salute.The flight, XC7655 operated with a Boeing 737-800 aircraft, brought 189 passengers to Alanya. The passengers were greeted with flowers at the terminal. Corendon plans to operate 1,278 flights to 17 destinations from a total of seven different countries, including Brussels, Amsterdam, Eindhoven, Düsseldorf, Cologne, Copenhagen, and Tehran, throughout the season until October 26th.

Macedonian teams run the Ohrid Marathon

TAV Macedonia, partnered the Athletic Club Ohrid TrcaT, which organized the Ohrid Running Weekend 2024 for the 8th time, a three-day sport and fun event which took place in Ohrid.

Ohrid St. Paul the Apostle Airport and Skopje International Airport colleagues took part in this event and ran 5K, 21K, and 21K relay marathons, respectively.During this mass sports event, they showed and proved their enthusiasm and commitment to achieving new sports and recreational heights and boosted their team spirit.

International Children's Day at Tbilisi Airport

In connection with International Children’s Day, TAV Georgia hosted guests with Down syndrome at Tbilisi International Airport. Within the framework of the event, the children get acquainted with the working process of the airport and observed different types of aircraft and fire-fighting equipment. At the end of the event, Wendy’s restaurant hosted the guests.

TAV Airports’ subsidiaries growth in South America!

TAV Technologies adds new projects in Chile and Panama to its portfolio. It will be supporting the digitalization efforts at Arturo Merino Benitez Airport in Santiago, Chile and at Tocumen, Pacifico, Enrique Adolfo Jimenez, Scarlett Martinez, and Enrique Malek airports in Panama.

TAV Operation Services inaugurated the Primeclass Pacifico Lounges at Nuevo Pudahuel - Arturo Merino Benítez International Airport in Santiago, Chile. These five new VIP lounges are the first in the world designed by the renowned Pininfarina studio, in collaboration with the local studio Grupo Arquitectos.

The opening ceremony was graced by notable attendees including TAV Airports Executive Board Member and Chair of ExCom Franck Mereyde and Chairman of TAV OS, Ernesto Rios Castellon, CEO of Servicios Aeroportuarios S.A., Fabiano Fontenelle, CEO of Primeclass Pacifico, Jairo Vives, Senior Design Manager of Pininfarina, and Nicolas Claude, CEO of Santiago Nuevo Pudahuel Airport.

TAV OS’s new office at Muscat

TAV Operation Services, launched a new office in Muscat, the capital of Oman. Sheikh Aimen al Hosni (CEO of Oman Airports), Sheikh Samer Al Nabhani (Chief Commercial Officer of Oman Airports), His Excellency Mr. Muhammet Hekimoğlu (Turkish Ambassador to Sultanate of Oman), Mr. Sinan Erem (COO of TAV OS) and Mr. Emirhan Erzurumlu (Regional Director – Middle East of TAV OS) attended the opening.

  • Austria's leading airline, Austrian Airlines, made its first flight from Vienna to Tbilisi at Tbilisi International Airport. During the summer navigation season, the airline will make direct flights from Tbilisi three times a week, every Monday, Thursday and Saturday, with A320 aircraft. Georgian Airways currently performs the flights twice a week to Vienna, the capital of Austria.

  • The national airline of Tajikistan, Somon Air, performed its first regular flight to Tbilisi International Airport. During the summer navigation season, flights from Dushanbe to Tbilisi will be operated twice a week, every Monday and Wednesday. The airline will perform flights with B737-800 and B737-900 type aircraft.

  • SunExpress has launched its İzmir-Prague flights! Passengers can now enjoy direct flights from İzmir to Prague on Mondays and Thursdays. Additionally, flights to Madrid are scheduled on Wednesdays and Saturdays, allowing for direct travel from İzmir to Madrid. The airport also celebrated the inaugural SunExpress flights from Rome and Tirana with a ceremony.

  • Direct flights from Milas-Bodrum to Bucharest with Flyone Airlines have started, scheduled every Sunday.

  • TAV Security's aircraft private security service to the United Kingdom began with the AJet VF843 flight to London Stansted, departing from Fraport TAV Antalya Airport.

  • ISO 9001 Quality Management System, ISO 10002 Customer Satisfaction Management System and ISO 14001 Environmental Management System certificates will be extended by the certification body (URS) for additional 3 years following the external audit conducted last week for the operations in Skopje and Ohrid Airports. In two weeks TAV Macedonia will receive the official audit report.

  • The construction of four new rental offices and the BHS system PLC upgrade project have been completed at Tbilisi Airport.

  • HAVAŞ Bus Operation, which were suspended between Bodrum Airport and Bodrum city centre, have restarted its services as of June 3, which had been stopped by Muğla Metropolitan Municipality Transportation Coordination Center (UKOME) since September.

  • Madinah Airport has been rated as 4-Star Airport again as per the audit conducted from 8 to 10 May by Skytrax.

  • Electronic control system for patrolling for the security staff in Ohrid Airport has been installed and fully operational.

  • A covered liquid waste disposal centre was established in the east courtyard of Milas-Bodrum International Terminal.

  • Gazipaşa-Alanya Airport was audited by VeriCert Co for ISO 50001:2018 Energy Management System.

  • IATA and Star Alliance have agreed to enhance their long-standing relationship in the field of travel compliance solutions, with the Alliance adopting Timatic AutoCheck, the next generation travel documentation and verification system which supports contactless travel for its 26 member airlines.

  • IATA announced the launch of IATA FuelIS, an advanced analytics solution to optimize airline fuel consumption, using aggregated and anonymized flight and fuel data.

  • IATA, Emirates, and Airbus have joined forces to deliver a Competency-Based Training and Assessment (CBTA) program for the Airbus A350 type rating, as Emirates prepares for the delivery of its fleet of 65 A350s from mid-2024.

  • At the ACI World Annual General Assembly, ACI airport members unanimously adopted three foundational Resolutions aimed at ensuring a safe and sustainable aviation system as demand for air travel continues to increase.

  • ACI World announces the appointment of Justin Erbacci as its new Director General and CEO, slated to join the organization in September 2024.

  • Airport Carbon Accreditation won the Sustainable Advocate Award 2024 as part of the prestigious International & European Association Success Awards, which recognise the important role trade associations play in leading and supporting their sector and profession with their initiatives.

  • Passenger traffic across the European airport network increased by +8.5% in April compared to the same month last year. This resulted in volumes standing at just -0.2% below their pre-pandemic (2019) level – a hair’s breadth away from a full recovery.

  • ACI EUROPE regrets the Irish Aviation Authority’s (IAA) Draft Decision on Ryanair’s complaints about Dublin Airport’s annual airport charges.
