TAV Leaders Summit 2023 was held in Istanbul hosted by Bloomberg HT journalist Reyhan Baysan. This year’s summit was titled “Leading the change”, focusing on the Pioneers 2025 roadmap. The day kicked off by the opening remarks of CEO Serkan Kaptan and Chairman of Executive Committee and Executive Board Member Franck Mereyde. Chair Edward Arkwright and Vice Chair Sani Şener greeted the crowd, before the first panel discussion and Q&A on the strategy.

The event centered on the Pioneers 2025 roadmap’s three pillars: digitalization, hospitality and sustainability with a focus on corporate culture and values. Keynote speakers featured Prof. Dr. Özgür Demirtaş, Sabancı University Chair of Finance, Serdar Kuzuloğlu, Technology Writer and Trend Hunter, and Judith Liberman, Storyteller and Art Therapist. A panel discussion with representatives from Groupe ADP, La French Tech, and TEB deep dived into the culture of innovation.

The Educational Volunteers Foundation of Türkiye (TEGV) welcomed participants and the İstanbul Klezmer Kepelya Orchestra and stand-up comedian Kaan Sekban entertained guests. The day concluded with closing remarks from Groupe ADP Chairman and CEO, Agustin de Romanet.

Sani Şener, the Vice Chair of TAV Airports, took part in the Uludağ Economy Summit. He shared his expert opinions on the status and future potential of the aviation industry during the "Future of Global Opportunities" panel. The discussion was moderated by Türk Traktör Chairman Turgay Durak, and other notable speakers at the event included M. Avni Kiğılı, Vice Chairman and Chairman of the Executive Board of Hayat Holding, and Vahap Küçük, Chairman of the Board of Directors of LC Waikiki.

Changes in senior management

BTA Food & Services, a subsidiary of TAV Airports, has announced Baha Bulbul as its new CEO. Bulbul, who has held various management positions at BTA since 1999, will continue to grow the company by focusing on globalization, digitalization, and sustainability.

Volkan Cilga, Executive Board Member responsible for Production and Supply Chain at BTA Food and Beverage Services, has also been appointed as the Vice Chairman of the BTA Executive Board.

N. Macedonian and Tunisian operations management changes also announced. Operating Skopje and Ohrid airports, TAV Macedonia appointed Nejat Kurt as General Manager. Metin Batak, who was TAV Macedonia General Manager since October 2020, is now appointed as TAV Tunisia Executive Board Member.

TAV Airports and Havaş teams recognized for excellence

TAV Airports was awarded as “Best Team to Join” by the Sales Network Community at Contact Day, an event that gathered decision makers such as CEOs, General Managers, and Deputy General Managers from 120 leading companies in Türkiye, held at the prestigious Uniq Istanbul venue. The award was based on the votes of more than 30,000 students and sector leaders, which is a source of pride for us as it places us among the most desirable companies to work with in the business world. Maja Bajalska-Georgievska, the Chief of Corporate Communications at TAV Macedonia, has also been awarded with the prestigious PRO.PR Globe Award for 2022.

Havaş has been recognized and being awarded the "Ground Handling Company of the Year" at the Ground Handling Summit organized by LOT Polish Airlines. This award acknowledges Havaş's outstanding performance and its customer-centric approach in providing ground services to LOT Polish Airlines globally.

TAV Airports CIO and TAV Technologies GM Kerem Öztürk has been recognized as one of the Best CIOs of the Year at the CXO Media CIO Awards, an event that honors successful digital transformation projects led by technology leaders in their companies. The awards ceremony, organized by CXO Medya and Futura of consultancy, honored Türkiye's top CIOs.

Havaş at IATA World Cargo Symposium

During the IATA World Cargo Symposium in Istanbul Havaş's Warehouse coordinator Turhan Yeşil showcased his expertise as a panel speaker. The symposium, which brought together 1250 delegates to Istanbul, Türkiye, provided a platform for Yeşil to discuss Havaş's digital acceptance of dangerous goods and their plans for digitalization. In his presentation on "Air Cargo Compliance: Digitizing Dangerous Goods Acceptance," Yeşil also shed light on the company's business processes with IATA's DG AutoCheck program.

ATU Duty Free’s new pop-up store in İstanbul Airport

ATU Duty Free has added another brand to its portfolio by opening a new Tissot pop-up store at Istanbul Airport's International Terminal Zone 4. The store, which is located on Luxury Hill and covers 72 square meters, showcases Tissot's iconic products and contemporary designs, including an eye-catching selection from the legendary PRX collection. In addition to the watches, the store also features a beverage area where hot and cold drinks are served, as well as an interactive "Buzzer Beater Challenge" area with an augmented reality basketball screen on a digital display, offering passengers an enjoyable experience.

Antalya Airport expands reach with new MENA destinations

Antalya Airport expands reach with new MENA destinations

Antalya Airport aims to attract more airlines and routes from the region in 2023, with 10 airlines scheduled to serve 11 routes in the summer season. Airlines such as Kuwait Airways, Wizzair Abu Dhabi, Flynas, and Flyadeal will operate for the first time at Antalya Airport this year. The airport plans to increase its one-way seat capacity by 25% to 800 thousand in 2023. Scheduled direct flights from Antalya in 2023 are as follows;

  • Bahrain - SunExpress once a week throughout the year, Turkish Airlines once a week during the summer season,
  • Kuwait - Jazeera Airways 4 times a week during the summer season, Kuwait Airways 2 times a week, Turkish Airlines 3 times a week,
  • Abu Dhabi- Wizzair Abu Dhabi 3 times a week throughout the year,
  • Jeddah - Turkish Airlines 2 times a week during the summer,
  • Riyadh - Flynas and Flyadeal 4 times a week, Turkish Airlines 2 times a week during the summer season,
  • Dammam - Turkish Airlines 2 times a week during the summer season.
  • Tel Aviv - Pegasus Airlines increased from 2 to 3 per day during the summer season, Turkish Airlines from 7 to 10 per week, SunExpress Airlines from 3 to 7 per week throughout the year.
  • Amman-Royal Jordanian, increasing from 3 to 5 per week during the summer season, Turkish Airlines 7 per week, Pegasus Airlines 5 per week throughout the year.
  • Beirut - Pegasus Airlines from 3 to 7 per week until the end of November, SunExpress Airlines from 2 to 5 per week throughout the year, Turkish Airlines 7 per week during the summer season.
  • Dubai- SunExpress Airlines 3 times a week throughout the year.
  • Doha-Qatar Airways will operate 5 flights per week during the summer season.

Antalya and Almaty teams run and bike for a good cause

Antalya Airport once again became the title sponsor of the Runtalya Marathon and FTA Sports Team of 100 colleagues participated in the marathon. The airport also sponsored the AKRA Gran Fondo cycling race, as part of the social responsibility project to support the children affected by the recent earthquake.

Almaty Airport showed its support for a project aimed at promoting a healthy lifestyle by participating in the Almaty Half Marathon 2023. 40 employees from various departments of the airport took part in the race. The airport also sponsored the event.

New direct flights for Enfidha-Hammamet and Monastir

TUI Airways recently resumed its direct flights from Glasgow to Enfidha on May 1, signaling the start of the summer season. The flights will be available once a week, every Saturday, until October 23, 2023.

In addition, the first flight of the German airline Eurowings Discover, a subsidiary of Lufthansa, has landed on May 3 at Monastir-Habib Bourguiba International Airport from Frankfurt, carrying 167 passengers. Initially, one weekly flight will be available before increasing the frequency to two weekly flights from May 22 until October 25, 2023.

Through RPA, accounting and finance operations in Zurich and Bermuda have experienced a significant boost in productivity. With the help of new financial software, staff can now focus on higher-value services as the repetitive and standardized tasks are taken care of automatically.

Recently, the company also launched their cutting-edge "All in One" QR digital service at Rome Primeclass Lounge. This upgrade ensures customers can access all lounge services from a single landing page simply by scanning the QR code provided. TAV OS plan to roll out this service soon in Zurich, Frankfurt, New York, and many other locations, making travel easier and more comfortable.

TAV Security adds more airlines to portfolio

TAV Security has started providing aircraft security services to Transavia Airlines at Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport, in addition to its existing services at Istanbul Airport. The new service was launched to coincide with Transavia Airlines' direct flights between Izmir and Paris-Orly.

TAV Security Services now provides aircraft security services at eight airports, including Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir, Antalya, Alanya Gazipaşa, Dalaman, Sabiha Gökçen, and Milas-Bodrum, serving prestigious airlines such as Turkish Airlines, Air France, KLM, Air Algeria, Turkmenistan Airlines, China Southern Airlines, Saudi Arabian Airlines, Libyan Airlines, EgyptAir, Etihad Cargo, Indigo Airlines, Kuwait Airways, as well as the police forces of Sweden, Norway, and Switzerland.

  • Air Astana has announced its switch to the spring-summer schedule, which includes increased flight frequencies to various destinations. The number of weekly flights from Almaty to Antalya will be increased to 10, while Tbilisi will have 7 weekly flights from Almaty and 3 flights per week from Nur-Sultan. The Almaty-Tashkent route will have 14 weekly flights, and Bishkek will have 9 weekly flights from Almaty. The airline will also increase its weekly flights to London to 5 and to Istanbul to 11. In addition, Air Astana will operate daily flights from Almaty to Beijing, while Baku and Dushanbe will have up to 4 weekly flights from Almaty.

  • The direct flight network of İzmir Adnan Menderes Airport, continues to expand in international destinations. Transavia has started operating direct flights between İzmir and Paris-Orly airports. Transavia will continue to operate reciprocal flights between Paris Orly and İzmir Adnan Menderes airports every Saturday and Sunday until October 28, 2023. Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport also welcomed the Air Serbia flight from Belgrade Air Serbia will operate reciprocal flights between Belgrade and Izmir every Wednesday and Saturday until October 28, 2023. With AnadoluJet's flights on the same route taking place on Thursdays and Sundays, the number of direct flights between Belgrade and Izmir has increased to four per week.

  • AnadoluJet also started flights from Ankara to Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan. The flights will be operated between Ankara Esenboğa Airport and Islam Karimov Tashkent International Airport 2 days a week.

  • Gazipaşa-Alanya Airport welcomed, Norwagian Air which commenced its first flight from Oslo to Gazipaşa- Alanya. Throughout the season, the airline is set to operate a total of 106 flights between Oslo to Gazipaşa-Alanya. Meanwhile, Corendon Airlines resumed its flight between Amsterdam and Gazipaşa-Alanya Airport.

  • ICAO’s latest global survey on the status of licensed aviation personnel by gender reveals that the participation of women holding positions as pilots, air traffic controllers, and maintenance technicians has increased on an overall basis from 4.5% globally in 2016, to 4.9% in 2021.

  • IATA responded to a statement from the Director General of the World Health Organization at the conclusion of the 15th meeting of the International Health Regulations, in which he declared that COVID was no longer a public health emergency of international concern (PHEIC).   • Boeing has unveiled its 2023 ecoDemonstrator program, which includes a new "Explorer" aircraft. The first "Explorer" is a Boeing 787-10 that will fly to countries in Asia to test better route coordination. The 787 joins Boeing's fleet of 10 ecoDemonstrators, like the flagship 777-200ER and the Alaska Airlines 737 MAX 9.

  • FAA plans new sky lanes for Air Taxis. Electric vehicles under development could initially move about cities similarly to helicopters, says FAA chief.

  • Joe Biden wants to implement new compensation rules for airline passengers impacted by flight delays or cancellations.The rules would require airlines to pay impacted passengers beyond a ticket refund if the carrier is responsible for the disruption. This may involve covering meals and hotels in the event that travellers are stranded, officials said.If implemented, it would be the first measure of its kind in the US.

  • The industry body representing Europe’s airports, ACI EUROPE, has renewed its call for the European Commission urgently to bring the EU Airport Slot Regulation up to date.
