PTE 2023: TAV Airports' key takeaways

We made our mark at the Passenger Terminal Expo 2023! Held in Amsterdam from March 14th to March 16th, this year's event brought together more than ten thousand aviation industry leaders, experts, and professionals from 130 countries.

One of the key highlights of the event was the panel discussion titled "Back to the Future and Beyond – A View from the Top," where TAV Airports CEO Serkan Kaptan, Deborah Flint, President of the Greater Toronto Airports Authority, Huntley Lawrence, COO of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, and Phillip A. Washington, CEO of Denver Airport, as well as Merchant Aviation Vice Chairman Kiran Merchant, shared their strategic ideas on how to adapt to the new reality of diverse end-users, partners, and employees post-pandemic. Kaptan also spoke on the panel titled "What Lies Ahead?" alongside ACI World - Airports Council International General Director Luis Felipe de Oliveira, Bahrain Airport Company CEO Mohamed Albinfalah, and Noida International Airport CDO Nicolas Schenk, moderated by Satyaki Raghunath, CSO of Bangalore International Airport Limited. Additionally, Melda Tuna from BTA spoke at the expo on adapting airport restaurants to the sustainability movement.

PTE 2023 also provided a platform for companies to showcase their latest innovations and technologies. TAV Technologies demonstrated their cutting-edge solutions through demo sessions at their booth, which generated a lot of interest and attention from attendees. Groupe ADP welcomed participants at their booth as well, showcasing Airport Services and the impeccable hospitality offer Extime. Overall, the event was a great success, and we are proud to have participated in it.

Get a job at the airport!

TAV Georgia, organized a job fair at Tbilisi and Batumi airports. The events provided a platform for job seekers to learn about the various employment opportunities available at the airports and have face-to-face interactions with the department heads. The company organized the fair for the first time and it attracted a lot of visitors in both cities. At the Tbilisi fair, 70 people applied for a job at the airport, while at the Batumi fair, 50 people applied for a job. TAV Airports is committed to contribute to the development of the local communities and strives to create the highest value for all stakeholders.

Expansion of ATU's Luxury Square at Istanbul Airport.

ATU has completed the expansion project of its Luxury Square store at Istanbul Airport. The store has added new world-class brands to its portfolio and now offers services with 24 different brands spread over an area of 1263 square meters with an additional 440 square meters of expansion. Located in Zone 5, departures floor, the Luxury Square store now features some of the most popular collections from brands.

Havas Riga

Havaş provides services to Norwegian Air at Riga Airport

Havaş has taken over all ground handling operations for Norwegian Air at Riga Airport, with the first flight from Oslo carrying 133 passengers. The company will provide comprehensive services to Norwegian Air at Riga Airport, including passenger and ramp services, cleaning, ticketing and de-icing services.

Cakes & Bakes at Skopje Airport

The 18th Cakes & Bakes branch has been opened by BTA at Skopje Airport, offering guests a space spanning 290 m² on the land side of the airport, which can accommodate up to 143 people. With over 150 products available, including vegan, gluten-free, and local delicacies, visitors can also enjoy admiring the works of art by Emre Namyeter, Nevin Taşkıran, and Ece Zeber. The opening ceremony was attended by Skopje Airport General Manager Metin Batak, BTA Chief Operator Officer (COO) Baha Bülbül, Skopje Airport Deputy General Manger Nejat Kurt, and airport employees and passengers.

TAV Airports returns to ITB Berlin

After a three-year hiatus due to the pandemic, the TAV Airports teams returned to ITB Berlin, which is the largest global travel trade show. TAV Airports CEO Serkan Kaptan, along with the Antalya and Georgia teams, had the opportunity to meet with various representatives from the travel and tourism industry. At this year's ITB Berlin, Georgia was the host country, where TAV operates the Tbilisi and Batumi airports. Opened by PM Irakli Garibashvili, Georgia pavilion, drew crowds in with its tagline "Infinite hospitality."

Ankara, Skopje, and Zagreb receive ASQ for excellence

TAV’ Ankara Esenboga, Skopje, and Zagreb airports have won the prestigious Airport Service Quality award, with each airport earning the "best airport" title and multiple wins in special categories. Skopje Airport was recognized as the "cleanest airport" in Europe, while Zagreb and Skopje received awards for "most dedicated staff" and "easiest airport journey," respectively. Additionally, Ankara and Skopje airports were honored as the "most enjoyable airports" in Europe. The awards ceremony is set to take place during the ACI Customer Experience Global Summit, which will be held on September 4-7, 2023, in Incheon, Republic of Korea, where the winners will be presented with their well-deserved accolades.

TAV Tunisia recognized for contributions to Tunisian tourism

TAV Tunisia, was honored on the occasion of the Arab Tourism Day. The Regional Delegate for Tourism in Sousse, along with the Governorate of Sousse and professional federations, recognized TAV Tunisia's significant contributions to the industry and its efforts in supporting national and regional initiatives aimed at promoting Tunisia as a destination. The honoring ceremony took place in Sousse, where TAV Tunisie Deputy GM Artaç Ünlü received a placard.

TAV Security begins training program for Antalya Airport

TAV Security expanded its operations at Antalya Airport through new agreements and conducted a training program for its new team members. The training program, which took place in Antalya from March 14th to 17th, included presentations that aimed to enhance the personal and professional development of the participants. On the final day of the program, TAV Security's General Manager, Turgay Şahan, and Deputy General Manager, Necmi Caner Bahçekapılı, met with the participants and addressed their inquiries.

TAV Technologies wins top award for airport management technology

TAV Technologies has been selected as Airport Management Technology Provider of the Year at the 'Aviation Achievement Awards 2023' organized by Creative Media Middle East. This prestigious award recognizes companies that offer technological innovations for airport operators. TAV Technologies has been honored with this award for its Total Airport Management Suite (TAMS) product, that helps airport operators improve their operational efficiency and enhance the passenger experience. The award was presented to TAV Technologies at the gala dinner held in Dubai.

  • Pegasus Airlines announced the launch of Ankara-Moscow flights, providing a new connection between the two capitals. The airline aims to start its service with three flights a week from Ankara to Moscow, starting from April 15, 2023.

  • Croatia Airlines, the flag carrier of Croatia, will introduce a new seasonal route between Skopje and Split starting May 12, 2023. This service will be operational until October 14, 2023, providing passengers with the opportunity to travel between the capital of North Macedonia and the popular tourist destination of Dalmatia during the summer season.

  • Air Cairo has initiated flight services to Kazakhstan. Starting from March 14, 2023, Air Cairo will operate regular passenger flights on the Almaty - Sharm el-Sheikh route twice a week (on Tuesdays and Saturdays) using A-320 aircraft.

  • Starting from March 31st, 2023, Airseven will begin operating a new route once a week, every Friday from Gothenburg to Enfidha Hammamet Airport until October 26th, 2023. Additionally, Easyjet UK will introduce a new route with one weekly flight every Monday from Bristol, United Kingdom to Enfidha Hammamet Airport, running from March 27th to October 27th, 2023. Moreover, Luxair will resume operations with two flights per week every Tuesday and Friday, beginning from March 31st, 2023, and ending on October 27th, 2023, arriving at Enfidha Hammamet Airport.

  • Milas-Bodrum Airport celebrated the commencement of the international travel season with a special ceremony, welcoming EasyJet's first flight from Bristol. EasyJet will continue to operate flights between Bristol and Bodrum three times a week, on Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday, until November 4th, 2023. In total, EasyJet plans to operate 694 reciprocal flights to Bodrum from five British cities - Bristol, Gatwick, Luton, Edinburgh, and Liverpool - between March 26th and November 11th.

  • World ‘population bomb’ may never go off as feared, finds study.

  • NEOM Airlines to launch in 2024, plans visa-free travel.

  • Etihad accused of misleading customers with greenwashing in ‘net zero’ ads.

  • Aviation chiefs rejected measures to curb climate impact of jet vapors. Airlines UK, the trade body for UK-registered airlines, said: “The science around [non-CO2 impacts] is not yet robust enough to form reduction targets.” Ryanair and Wizz Air said it was too early to formulate and implement policies to mitigate the impact of contrails.

  • NASA has issued $50 million in awards to 14 organizations to develop manufacturing processes and advanced composite materials for aircraft structures. These green technologies hold the potential to help reduce aviation carbon emissions.

  • The International Air Transport Association (IATA) announced the opening of nominations for the 2023 IATA Diversity and Inclusion Awards. Nominations will be accepted from all individuals or organizations working in the aviation value chain and will close at 23:59 CET on 19 April 2023.

  • Airports Council International (ACI) released the annual airport climate action results for Airport Carbon Accreditation, the global carbon standard for airports founded and managed by ACI EUROPE on behalf of airports worldwide.

  • The Airport System Capacity Enhancement (ASCE) program has been created by ACI World and the Civil Air Navigation Services Organization (CANSO) with the objective of eliminating hindrances that restrict airport capacity and promoting the sustainable expansion of air travel demand.

  • PriestmanGoode designs vehicle to help people with reduced mobility navigate airports.

  • New warning system will make airports safer using a suite of sensors, it alerts controllers if a plane is heading for a taxiway instead of a runway.

  • Ryanair wants EU Commission to intervene in air traffic control strikes.
